Downstream

Year Event
1991-1995 Four plywood mills are established in Sarawak in order to focus on the downstream processing of our timber resources. These mills begun as joint-ventures with the Japanese and Korean firms.
1993 BCL establishes a plywood operation to add value to forest resources.
1994-2000 Value-added processing capabilities are established in Malaysia to include fibreboard, flooring, furniture and components, door facing and door production facilities.
2004 Joint venture in Sarawak with Masonite International Corporation (one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of door facings and doors in the world) for the production and marketing of door facings and doors.
2005 Strategic partnership in Japan with Daiken Corporation, a building materials supplier, and Itochu Corporation, a major trading house in Japan, for the production of fiberboards.
2006 Expand into kitchen and wardrobe systems with opening of AinoFurnishing (formerly known as AinoKitchen) retail outlets in Malaysia.

A power plant with a capacity of generating 10.1MW of electricity begins operations in Tebanyi, Sarawak. Wood residue from our operations is used as biomass to generate power that is supplied to our mills.
2008 Barama Company Limited's second sawmill along with kiln dryer facilities is commissioned in Buckhall, Guyana.

The acquisition of Elegant Living's flooring business gives Samling access to its 486 distribution outlets all over China.
2009 Second power plant with a designed capacity of generation 3.5MW of electricity is commissioned and completed in Layun, Sarawak.
